New types of data: their impact on how we do research in management, and how we publish it

Room Saraceno - Department of Management

The doctoral seminar is held by Prof. Stefano Brusoni, Professor of Technology and Innovation Management at the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zürich - (ETH Zürich)

Title of the seminar: New types of data: their impact on how we do research in management, and how we publish it.
Abstract:
In recent years we have seen the rise of new, powerful technologies for collecting data. Cheap computational power gave us big data, the ability of collecting and analyzing vast amount of heterogeneous, real time data about whole populations. In parallel, increasingly precise technologies (e.g. fMRI) enable us to observe, in principle, the origins of fundamental managerial concepts related to learning, cognition and decision-making. I would like to put these developments in the context of recent trends in management research (e.g. the increasing importance of the identification discussion) and discuss their implications on the process of doing research and publishing our findings (e.g. the discussion about replicability and transparency).
